Resting In The Here and Now: The Power of Mindfulness for Emotional Healing and Wellbeing
Updated: Jun 11
Sometimes we live the way we do so we can pretend we have no past. Other times we live for the future to escape the moment. These things are nothing more than interruptions to awareness, reality, and life processing.
Focusing on the here and now becomes an act of awareness. That’s not because the past and future are unimportant. Every experience takes place in the here and now so by cultivating moment to moment awareness we can begin to process emotions, events and triggers in our life.
By continually returning to our experience in the here and now, we can build a picture of unresolved problems, concerns and worries that affect our wellbeing and happiness.
An important reason for focusing on the here and now is that we can actively seek to complete unfinished business and let go of emotional baggage. This practice is a holistic approach that allows us to understand actions, reactions, and behaviours from the inside out.
Some benefits of mindfulness, meditation and focusing on the here and now are an improved sense of self-control, regulating mental states, increasing positivity and emotional understanding, empathetic insight and improving wellbeing.
Resting in the here and now makes for a powerful approach to healing and therapy.
